I've just got one of the new HP ultraslim docking stations connected to a new HP G3 but it just tells me it's "plugged in, not charging". Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply ' Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Ok just plugged in the adaptor that came with the laptop and it charges fine.

Ok so it worked yesterday after plugging in the supplied charger off the dock. Planed back on the dock this morning and it's showing the same. Mine is doing the name but I cannot plug the same charger in my laptoip because they are different adaptors.

How does HP install software and gather data? Are you working from home? This document contains recommendations for resolving issues that you might encounter while using your computer with any model of HP docking station. Use the information in this document to verify that your computer is compatible with the docking station and with the power adapter, to resolve connection issues, and to update device drivers.

HP manufactures a variety of docking station models with various methods for docking and for connecting external devices. The following graphics show two sample models. In sample one, dock the computer onto the docking station connector on the docking station.

The remaining connections are located on the back and sides of the docking station. Figure : Sample one — Docking station model. In sample two, slide the computer onto a display panel on the docking station. The docking station is connected to the computer using a connector cable located on the back of the display panel. Figure : Sample two — Docking station model. The computer docking connections located on the bottom of the computer vary between computer models.

For the docking station to work properly, the docking posts, eject mechanisms, and electrical connections on the docking station must be compatible with the connections on your computer model. To verify that your computer is compatible with a docking station, do one of the following:. If you have the product manual that accompanied the docking station, look for a list of compatible computers in the manual.

If you do not have the product manual, locate the model name on the docking station. Typically, this number is located on the service tag sticker on the bottom, back, or side of the docking station.

Figure : Service tag with product name and product number. If your docking station is not compatible with your laptop, refer to Finding a compatible docking station for your laptop for steps to find a compatible docking station.

Finding your docking station without a model name If you are using a docking station that is not compatible with your computer, you may experience problems. From the HP Web site. Go to the HP Web site and then type docking station in the search field. Select Shop for docking solutions for your business from the top of the results list. Under compatibility, click Show alland then search for your computer from the list of compatible devices.

Open your browser and type the product number along with HP.I am not sure what is going on with it directly. I have installed the firmware for the user and it still will not charge. There are times when the user will move the docking station and then it charges, but as of late it will not. It will charge on the same docking station at another user's desk I tested this. When I take their laptop to place it on the other one, it states it is install drivers and then viola! It says it is plugged in and charging while on the docking station.

Is there a direct link for HP drivers for this particular device to see if perhaps their machine missed a driver update? If it charges on another dock then this dock is defective. Have you tried docking another users laptop to see if it charges on the suspected defective one? If another laptop will not charge on it you have your answer. I also would like to know the answer to this.

HP USB C Dock Review

I have a fleet? At various times, they show power from the AC adapter but "not charging". I have spent the last 2 years trying to get the problem fixed through HP, but so far they have not been able to resolve it.

They have released BIOS and driver updates that were supposed to address the problem, but it is still occurring from time-to-time. Are you the OP Jim? I personally dislike the slimline docking stations and I am not sure why they ever went away from the standard ones. Probably due to the new thinner laptops.

I, too, have found a strangely similar problem with a certain model of HP laptop, albeit with just the power cord and not with the docking station.

The problem is an intermittent one, whereby typical troubleshooting techniques of swap-and-test do not work. Removing the power-related hardware from device manager and letting it install the updated drivers seems to work for a while also, and then it just comes back to "not charging". I have spent many, many hours on support calls with no resolution, receiving many BIOS updates that were supposed to solve it, and many driver updates and rollbacks, all to no avail.

Because the problem is very intermittent, it seemed like replacing the power supply was working in the beginning, but then we discovered it wasn't. To date, the only thing that gives us a long period of relief from the problem seems to be running the battery completely dead until the laptop has zero power available, then a full recharge before using it again. It sounds to me like this is a related problem to that which the OP is describing.

A quick search online reveals other users with the same problem, and many report that they have solved the problem with certain updates, only to find out later that the problem comes back intermittently. HP seems to be the only brand affected by the problem as described.

So, the question is, can i charge my laptop via USB-C. Or is it only the 3. I use an G5. Minimum Power supply is 45 W, even better if you use a 65W to keep the power supply temperature lower.

Nothing happens. Nothing happens here either. The one close to the USB 3. As it should. When i use the USB-C connector on the longer side nothing happens at all. The "power" function in the C connector must be broken or something.

Might be the time to report this malfunction to my IT department. I see a smal buttonlooking to the image of the Power Bank. But definately more than 45W. Actually get an error message that the USB connector is not recognized.
